is Saturday 7th April, 2pm onwards at The Yarborough Circuit in Lincoln. This is a great opportunity to get a taste of circuit racing locally, and catagories range from U8's through to Cat 3/4 Seniors - please try and support this venture as if its successful there may be a possiblity of extending the series to other venues next year, such as Newark!
We will post up more details as we get them. Gear restrictions apply for youth racing (ask coaches at Tuesday training if your not sure about this) booking is through the British Cycling website at:
You will have heard that Stage 4 of the Tour of Britain is coming to Newark. In celebration of this, the Committee have been working hard behind the scenes. Newark Castle CC is hosting a couple of events and supporting a couple of others as part of Newark and Sherwood DC ‘Festival of Cycling’.
In order to make these events a success, and to attract new riders to our sport and club, we will need your help to run them and make them safe for both riders and spectators :
Sunday 3rd September – we are running an open 25 mile TT – we need some club volunteers to help marshal this event – it is being run from 10am and would be a time commitment of some 3.5 hours. Tea and coffee provided. Please confirm your offer of help to me: email@example.com
Tuesday 5th September – we are bringing road racing back to Newark town centre in the form of a British Cycling Go Ride Race around the market square, around to Middle Gate and back into the market square. This is a junior road race format ages up to 16 years old. The town are really supporting this Festival of Cycling by putting on other entertainments that evening in the market square. We should see this event as an opportunity to show case cycle racing, and if successful we could see it emerge as an annual event……..as it used to be….Newark has a rich heritage of cycle racing. We will also be looking to put on an event sponsors TT prologue to try and raise some funds for the club and charity. As such, we will need volunteers to help barrier up / tape the route, and then to line the route to ensure junior / rider safety. Set up will be from 4-5pm, and racing concluding at 8.30pm. Please confirm your offer of help to me: firstname.lastname@example.org
Thursday 7th September – ‘have a go’ TT – we will run a shortened 8 mile TT around our Flawborough course in the early evening – all left turns – same start / finish as the Grand Prix de Gentlemen. This is to give members of the public the opportunity to try time trialling. Volunteers are needed to marshal corners to assist with novice rider safety. Please confirm your offer of help to Catherine: email@example.com
Saturday 9th September – ride in a peloton. As part of our Saturday am club run, we are partnering with Newark Riders to put on a club run for solo road cyclists to join a group for a ride out. Marketed as “If you have enjoyed road cycling on your own, come and try cycling as part of a peloton. Come and try cycling as part of a peloton – this no strings attached event with a café stop is a perfect way to experience a club atmosphere.” It would be good to have club members out for this to join the ride and promote our club.
Finally, I know that NSDC will be looking for volunteers to help steward the actual Tour of Britain stage on the day – 6th September. If you feel able to help on the day, please complete their volunteer form Volunteer Sign up form on the Council’s website.
More will follow on these events, but they will only be successful with all our club helping and participating.
There will be a lot we will try to do as a club – exposure, promoting cycling, canvassing for the cycle track and getting as many involved in this event as possible. This will evolve over the coming months.
